MINUTES of THE AMERICAN ELECTROLOGY ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
FEBRUARY 9, 2008 CHARLOTTE, NC
The meeting was called to order at 9:05 AM by President Sharon Ortiz, CPE. The President thanked Myrtle Hamrick, CPE, President of EANC (North Carolina) for assisting with the hotel and meeting arrangements for the Board Meeting. President Ortiz, CPE, also thanked Jeannie Bush, CPE, for putting the Delegate packets together for the meeting. A verbal roll call was taken.
The MINUTES of the November 1, 2007, AEA Board Meeting in San Francisco, California were approved with no corrections.
The TREASURER’S REPORT for the period was given by Deborah Cassin, CPE, AEA Treasurer. NYEA President Caroline DelJudice made a request that the Treasurer’s Report be included in the Delegate packets in order to give Delegates time to look it over prior to the Board meeting.
President Ortiz reported on activities since the Convention in her PRESIDENT’S REPORT.
OCE (Debbie Malacina, CPE, Michelle O’Brien, CPE) Debbie reminded the Board that OCE must adhere to specific criteria in allowing continuing education credits for lectures.
IBEC (Leigh Henry, CPE) Leigh is negotiating with Prometric for a more reasonable fee for the Japanese administration of the CPE exam. Leigh is attempting to assist in the transition of the IBEC licensing exam for the electrologists in New Jersey. Updated 2008 CPE Test Bulletins are available through Rita Souza, CPE. To sit for the CPE exam, applicants from an unlicensed state must have received a minimum of 320 hours training.
COE (Jeannie Bush, CPE) Jeannie asked for Delegates to email her with any information on electrology schools in their area. Jeannie is responding to numerous inquiries directed to CAREERAEA@ELECTROLOGY.COM. She passed around the Pivot Point State Board Directory and asked for any corrections/additions to the publication. Jeannie provided information on the American Institute of Education(AIE), located in California, and has been discussing their approach to on-line learning with the AIE Director.
BYLAWS (Diane Radic, CPE) Diane has been assisting an Affiliate with some internal concerns.
CONVENTION (Sandra Jackson, CPE) There was an overwhelming positive feedback about the accommodations, food, speakers and program at the 2007 Convention in San Francisco. However, due to escalated food costs and lower than expected attendance, the AEA lost money on the convention. The 2008 Convention is another weekend event in Chicago, Illinois, on Friday, October 24th through Sunday, October 26th at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.
WAYS AND MEANS (Gina Ricciardi, CPE) Gina reported on the Ways and Means sales from the San Francisco Convention and the end of the year totals. She shared some suggestions from attendees shopping at the AEA booth. Sandra Jackson, CPE, reported that the black and white Why Choose Electrolysis brochures continue to be a big success. Completion of the enclosed survey form is mandatory and re-orders will not be filled unless the survey is returned. Make certain each packet of brochures contain 300 brochures, not 100. A Ways and Means Chairman is needed.
MEMBERSHIP (Sharon Ortiz, CPE) This period resulted in 28 new members. Sharon thanked the Affiliates who helped to get the renewals in as soon as possible. Sharon is seeking a new Membership Chairman and included a description of the duties of this very important position.
PUBLIC RELATIONS (Sharon Ortiz, CPE) Sharon responded to an article in her area that did not include electrolysis as a method to get rid of hair. She has been distributing press wires to bring electrology to the forefront. The AEA had a presence at the Day Spa Expo in Las Vegas February, 6, 2008. The aesthetic field seems to be the most viable related profession for us to focus upon, educate and possibly integrate. Karen Portnoff made several recommendations for the press party. The Board felt that we need more time to get prepared for the press party to ensure success.
The Working Wonders ad in both the PCOS Today Magazine and Transexual Road Map website were included in the packets.
ADVERTISING (Sheila Ahern, CPE) Sheila is assisting Karen Portnoff with Public Relations.
Send Sheila Affiliate event information and she will advertise it on the website.
WEBSITE Caroline DelJudice, CPE recommended that we ask Kelly Watson to fine tune the ad words campaign on the search engine sites. Diane Radic is working with Kelly on the website and answering web-site questions.
STATE REPORTS - Affiliate State Reports were included in the Delegate packets.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Caroline DelJudice,CPE, NYEA President, resurrected the discussion pertaining to “perks” and fees that are waived during the Convention for Committee members and those who assist with the convention. The Executive Committee is re-evaluating the issue.
NEW BUSINESS
Executive Director - President Ortiz, CPE - The President discussed what has transpired since the Board voted to eliminate the position of Executive Director.
Nominating Committee - A Nominating Committee representing each region of the country has been appointed by President Ortiz, CPE. The email of Jeanne Renken should read oklajdr@comcast.net. Nominating information will be in the next EW. Sandra Jackson, CPE, informed the Board that she would not be running for AEA office in the up-coming election. She will assist in the transition of her current duties to other individuals.
